The 10 Most Common Issues with Brake Pads

Below are the 10 most common after-sales issues with brake pads, along with expert solutions, compiled based on industry experience:

1. Brake noise (a frequent issue)
Cause: The new brake pads have not fully bedded in with the old brake rotors, scratches on the rotors have not been addressed, or the wheel cylinders are not returning properly.
Solution: We recommend a break-in period of 300–500 kilometers. If the unusual noise persists, inspect the brake rotor’s flatness or the condition of the wheel cylinders.
2. Brakes feel soft
Cause: Incomplete air bleeding during installation or degraded brake fluid.
Solution: Bleed the brake lines to remove air, and replace the DOT 4‑grade brake fluid if necessary.
3. Brake does not return to its original position
Cause: The wheel cylinder piston is seized due to contamination.
Solution: Professionally clean the sub‑pump piston assembly, using a dedicated grease.
4. Smoke emitted after installing the new film
Cause: High-temperature decomposition of organic materials (particularly on long downhill sections)
Solution: This is a normal phenomenon; if smoking persists, check whether brake pads of different materials have been mixed.
5. Brake Direction Deviation
Cause: Uneven braking force between the left and right wheels.
Solution: A four-wheel brake pressure check is required; replacement of brake pads from the same production batch may be necessary.
6. Pedal kicks the foot
Cause: Abnormal wear on the brake rotor has resulted in grooves.
Solution: Brake discs/pads must be replaced as a set; individual replacement is prohibited.
7. Rapid wear
Cause: Low-quality materials or aggressive driving
Solution: Please provide proof of purchase from an authorized retailer to request a quality inspection. Normal wear and tear is not covered under the warranty.
8. Model mismatch in online purchase
Solution: The vehicle’s VIN must be provided for re‑matching; self‑grinding and reuse are prohibited.
9. Questions Regarding Material Replacement
Important note: NAO material cannot be directly substituted for semi-metallic material; the entire system must be replaced.
10. Anti-Counterfeiting Verification
Solution: Verify the laser anti-counterfeiting code through official channels; products without proper labeling or documentation are not covered under warranty.

Note: All maintenance involving the braking system must be performed by a certified technician; attempting to handle it yourself may void the warranty. It is recommended to inspect the brake pad thickness every 10,000 kilometers, ensuring it remains at least 3 mm.
